Pregnant and Lactating Women – how vulnerable the jabs are!

The new generation or we may say the next up-coming babies the new born ones are how
vulnerable to Covid infection. It’s a call of every nation and many research is still on. Balram Bhargava the Director General of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said guidelines to be released soon for the jabs of pregnant women. He said both the Vaccines Covaxin & Covishield are good for pregnant women. The National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) also recommended vaccinations for lactating women.

A study by ICMR involving 18 people in Bihar with first dose as Covishield and a second dose with Covaxin showed a better immunogenicity than two doses of the same vaccine. The researchers said, “To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study which reports the effects of heterologous prime-boost vaccination with an adenovirus vectored vaccine followed by an inactivated whole virus vaccine”.

The findings suggest that immunization with a combination of an adenovirus vector platform based vaccine followed by an inactivated whole virus vaccine was not only safe but also elicited better immunogenicity. Thus it’s safe!
